An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Ocean Freight Operator to join an established and successful freight forwarding business.

The role will involve overseeing the day-to-day management of ocean freight operations, coordinating both import and export shipments from initial booking through to final delivery.

Working closely with the wider operations team, you will play a key role in ensuring shipments are handled efficiently, deadlines are met and customers continue to receive a high standard of service.

Ocean Freight Operator Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day-to-day coordination of ocean freight shipments, managing both import and export operations.
• Handle FCL (Full Container Load) and LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments from initial booking through to final delivery.
• Liaise with shipping lines, overseas agents and transport providers to arrange and coordinate shipments.
• Prepare and process all relevant shipping and customs documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Coordinate customs clearance, collections and deliveries to ensure shipments run smoothly.
• Track shipment progress, keeping customers informed and providing regular updates.
• Identify and resolve operational issues, delays and customer queries efficiently.
• Source competitive freight rates, negotiate with suppliers and prepare customer quotations.
• Maintain accurate shipment records, including costs, charges and supplier invoices.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers, carriers and overseas partners.
• Ensure all freight operations comply with relevant industry regulations and internal procedures.
• Provide support across other freight services when required, including air freight and courier shipments.

Ocean Freight Operator Skills and Experience:

• A minimum of 12 months' experience within ocean freight forwarding, with a strong focus on import operations.
• A good understanding of both import and export shipping processes is essential.
• Must have hands-on experience coordinating FCL and LCL shipments.
• Knowledge of relevant shipping documentation, customs procedures and freight forwarding processes.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
• Confident communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• A proactive and flexible approach, with the confidence to work both independently and within a team.
• Additional experience managing ocean freight exports would be advantageous.
• Exposure to air freight forwarding and associated procedures including a knowledge of international courier services and shipment coordination is desirable.
