Accounts Assistant Responsibilities:

 

  • Take full responsibility for maintaining and reconciling the sales ledger
  • Prepare and post journals with the support of the Finance Manager
  • Support the month-end close and assist in producing accurate P&L, balance sheet, and trial balance reports
  • Provide insightful analysis, margin reporting, and commentary to support monthly management accounts
  • Prepare payroll for employees, including starters, leavers, and adjustments and maintain payroll records
  • Assist with HMRC submissions, including VAT returns, postponed VAT accounting statements, P11Ds, and P46
  • Prepare documentation for annual accounts and assist in maintaining financial controls
  • Undertake ad-hoc reporting and hands-on support to the Finance Manager and Directors
  • Support the wider team with finance support and guidance

 

Accounts Assistant Skills and Experience:

 

  • Previous experience in a finance-related role, either as an Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant, or Bookkeeper
  • Possesses an AAT qualification or similar finance-related qualification
  • Demonstrates excellent all-round finance knowledge, including double-entry, reconciliations, and month/year-end processes
  • IT literate, confident with accounting software and Excel
  • A keen eye for detail and a meticulous approach to tasks
  • A team player who uses their initiative and is willing to learn
